Hunting in Moron
Hunting for ducks, dove and quail are offered from the area around the city of Moron in Ciego de Avila province. It is really nice to try duck hunting in the early morning, quail during the day and dove in the evening when the birds head for water or their nesting site. If you prefer to hunt just one species morning and afternoon....it is not a problem. The hotel has 144 rooms and 12 suites. American bass fishermen have stayed here since the hotel opened in about 1980. Lakes fished included Lake Redonda, Lake Buffalo, Leguna de le Leche and Lake Chambas. This is one of the most Americanized places in all Cuba. If there is such a thing as the city of brotherly love in Cuba....the city of Moron is it. The city is made up of about 55,000 of the friendliest people in Cuba. About one hour and 15 minutes north of the city you will find Cayo Coco, currently Cuba's second most important tourist beach area. Also you will find Cayo Guillermo just a little bit further west. For those wanting to bring wife, girlfriend and or kids, you can stay at a five star hotel at Cayo Coco (costs more too)....it just takes longer to get to the fields or lakes. To the South (about one hour) you will find the fishing village of Jucaro. Here you will find a floating hotel (The Tortuga) parked in the Bay of Anna Maria an extremely popular place for bone fishermen and scuba divers. It stays "sold out" about one year in advance. The Capital city is named Ciego de Avila just like the Province. It is about 30 minutes south of Moron. Moron is a place that will last in your memories forever! Expect to pay $2100 for a 7 night / 5 day hunting trip to Moron plus the cost of getting there. Hunting license costs $25, shot gun rentals (both 12 and 20 gauge) are $10 per day and shotgun shells are $10 per box. We did our first hunting trips in the Moron area in 1980 with our Cuban friend Tomas Marino. |
