Hunting at Maspaton

The Maspaton hunting club is located about 62 km east of Pinar Del Rio City.  The club is located at the Cubana Rice Plantation.  It has 134 square km of marshes and woodlands around a number of small lakes.  The shoreline has mangroves and lots of bonefish, tarpon and Snook.  The lake of the Youth is not far from the club and is used by bass fishermen.  At one time the official Cuban record of about 17.5 pounds was said to have been caught there.

The lodge has 34 air-conditioned rooms, each with a refrigerator, TV and radio.  There is a restaurant,  swimming pool, bar and game room.

Both hunting for ducks, dove, quail and pheasant along with bass fishing and snook and tarpon fishing are available while lodging at Maspaton, about one hour and a half southwest of Havana.

Expect to pay $2100 for a 7 night / 5 days of hunting trip plus the cost of transportation.  Hunting license is $25, rental shot guns (both 12 and 20 gauge) are $10 per day and shells are $10 per box.

We made our first hunting trip to Maspaton way back in 1977 with our friend and partner at that time Russ Miller.
