Christopher Columbus landed near
Guardalavaca Beach in October of 1492. He noted in his journal that "this
was the most beautiful land he had ever seen".
The beach at Guardalavaca is about 2 miles
of white silvery sand with turquoise colored water. Many are calling it
Cuba's Cancun!
Guardalavaca is known for its sporting
activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, tennis,
windsurfing, volleyball, catamaran sailing and kayaking.
The hill country is in the background and
the Sierra Maestra Mountains are only a short drive away.
Guardalavaca Beach is located in Holguin
Province. Holguin is the fourth largest province in all of Cuba and the
capital city of Holguin has about 225,000 people.
Holguin is also where Fidel Castro was
born, where he was first married and where his parents are buried.
As we have said, the beach at Guardalavaca
is about 2 miles long and is white silvery sand with turquoise blue waters.
There are several other beaches and resort areas near Guardalavaca such as
Don Lino, Bahia de Naranjo and Estero Ciego. Lots to do and lots to see!
