Dear Cuba Policy Advocates:
First, many thanks to all of you (and there were a lot!) who called or
wrote your member of Congress this past week to urge her/him to cosponsor
HR 654, the Rangel-Flake bill to end the ban on travel to Cuba. The
phones in Congress were ringing off the hook last week, and the results
were excellent. We now have 37 official cosponsors (actually, there are
50 confirmed, but it takes a while for each new name to get posted on the
Thomas website) to the bill. Our goal of 35 cosponsors by February 9 was
clearly surpassed. Thanks!! This is a great start, and our goal if 100
cosponsors by March 1 is attainable—with your help! The list of current
cosponsors is below. Check it out to see if your member is listed; if
not, you know what to do.

To sign on to the bill, Democratic members should call Vivian Catalino in
Rep. Rangel's office; Republican members should call Lance Walker in Rep.
Flake's office. We especially want to target Republican members
and new members of Congress this week. If your member falls in
those categories, please put some extra effort into your call.
As a reminder, here are our benchmarks toward the goal of 100:
By February 9: 35 cosponsors

By February 15: 60 cosponsors
By February 23: 80 cosponsors
By March 1: 100 cosponsors
It will get harder to reach these goals as the month progresses, as we
will have gotten our allies. Then we will need to convince the
skeptical. But we can do it. We will do it.
