Golfing in Cuba

American golfers will certainly want to be among the first to try golfing in Cuba. The Varadero Golf Club, the former Dupont Mansion, is the site for Cuba's first 18 hole golf course (it opened in April of 1998). The mansion cost $1.3 million to build in 1930. It is fabulous and is utilized as a restaurant (Mirador) with 4 luxury guest suites (one or two bedroom).

Prices for a one bedroom suite is $375 (winter); $625 for the two bedroom (winter). Summer rates are $240 for the one bedroom and $360 for the two bedroom suites.

It runs right along side of Cuba's three Disneyland-style hotels in Varadero Beach. These hotels are all 5-star.

There are 21 caddies, of which 15 are beautiful, pleasant young ladies.

Expect to pay....$60 for a green fee.....$10 for the caddy.....$25 to rent a cart.....$10 to rent clubs. Of course fees for nine holes are less!

Havana has the only other golf course in Cuba. Although it only has nine (9) holes...it has 18 tees for your pleasure. There are many luxury hotels to choose from in Havana. Don't get left out...this is a first.

Many American golfers prefer to go in a group (minimum of six). Group trips work like this:

Day 1....Our representative and a Cuban interpreter will meet you at the Jose Marti International Airport and remain with you for the balance of your trip. Check into the Melia Cohiba Hotel and have dinner.

Day 2....Stay in the 22 story Melia Cohiba Hotel, opened new in 1994. Play golf morning and afternoon.

Day5/6/7....Transfer to the Hotel Melia Varadero overlooking the newest section of the golf course. This ostentatious resort also has a fitness center and a large swimming pool. Play golf morning and afternoon.

Day 8....After a morning trip to the Hemingway Museum, depart from the Jose Marti International Airport for your home.
